of gold-diggers and gold-
diggers beware: a man on the cusp of
becoming a multi-millionaire thinks
he has finally won over the girl he has
been in love with since they were at
school together; but she is conspiring
with another former classmate and
together they seek to relieve him of half
his money in the very funny, sometimes
hilarious, comedy For Love Or Money...
AT THE FUNERAL OF THE FORMER CLASSMATE who bullied him, 30-year-old Mark
(Robert Kazinsky: True Blood) with his best friend Tim
(Tony Way: AfterLife) in tow once again sees the girl of
his dreams, Connie (Screen Actors Guild Award Nominee Samantha Barks: Les
Miserables), whom he has been in love with for twenty years.
As an awkward ten-year-old, Mark (played as a child by Reece Pockney) was smitten
with classmate Connie (played as a child by Savannah Dass) and wrote her a poem
to give to her at school.
Love Or Money…
in a movie that has a lot
to say about the human
condition, greed and
vengeance, there are
some great and notable
by Tommy (played as a child by Joel McDermott), who bullies him, and Johnny
(played as a child by Emilio Lopez), Mark never again approaches Connie. After
school they lose touch, but the death of Tommy brings them together again.
Mark discovers that Connie became Tommy's girlfriend and following his death
she is now being consoled by the sleazy Johnny (Edward Speleers: Outlander).
Mark is about to come into £20 million from a business venture and he is confident
that nobody else knows about it. However, Johnny has insider information and
persuades Connie to convince Mark to marry her.
The plan is for her to then divorce Mark and take him for half the money, giving
her and Johnny a nice nest egg. Believing Connie really loves him, Mark proposes
to her, but when he discovers the deceit he angrily begins to play tricks on
Connie, treating her badly and pushing her into corners to see just how far
she would be prepared to go in order to get her hands on his millions.
As the tricks get more and more callous, Mark involves Kendra (Rachel Hurd-Wood)
Connie's former best friend who is now persona non-grata with her
to help him wreak havoc in Connie's life, but when things go too far she begins
to feel sorry for Connie and wants to call it off.
As Mark presses on with his cruelty, he discovers that far from being dead as
Connie had professed, her wacky parents are very much alive and kicking
oversexed, loud and embarrassing and totally responsible for the emotional mess
in which Connie and her sister, Goth Alexa (Tanya Reynolds), find themselves.
Will Mark continue to give Connie a hard time; will he fall for Kendra or will
he realise that, against all the odds, he is still in love with Connie? Will
Connie even stay the course?
